Higher Altitudes, 2016. Video with sound, 8:20 min
At the AWIPEV station at the Alfred Wegner Institute in Ny-Ålesund, Spitzbergen different air space readings were taken with the aid of a captive balloon for climate research.
The shots for Higher Altitudes were taken during several measurement flights. To do this, I attached a digital HD camera to the underside of the balloon. The resulting takes were made at different altitudes between 200 and 1000 metres. The soundtrack derives from the original sounds recorded during the flights.

Black Ice, 2016. Video with sound, 6:38 min
The research term, black ice, refers to polluted glacier ice. Polluted ice reflects less sunlight and thus speeds up the melting of the ice. The takes for Black Ice were made in April 2015 at AWIPEV station at the Alfred Wegner Institute in Ny-Ålesund, Spitsbergen. The video reflects the process of melting and shows different ice probes under a microscope.
