LA MAREA (TIDES) 2014-2015

The series of 17 photographs show primarily places of recreational culture, such as theme parks, stadiums, promenades and public spaces in Havanna and the province of Guantánamo on the island of Cuba. It shows the reality of a socialist society beyond the romantic, touristic idea and the clichéd connection to the prison on the Guantánamo Bay U.S. base. La Marea refers to the natural phenomena of the ebb and flow of tides. In this series, tides are used figuratively. They stand for the repeated process of coming and going, and symbolise the daily situation in a land on the threshold of opening itself up to the wider world.

La Marea presents the first part of Cuban Series, a second part with film works is in the planning stage.
